What does the Bible have to say about same-sex marriage?

The Bible addresses homosexuality without explicit mention of gay or same-sex marriage. Seen as an unnatural and immoral sin, the Bible condemns homosexuality. First Corinthians 6:9 says “Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceivecd: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers not male prostitutes not homosexual offenders.” Vs. 18-19 in the same chapter says “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit……You are not your own” – Leviticus 18:22 say “Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman: that is detestable”. These are some very harsh words, along with Romans 5:26-27, to say about homosexual intimacy(you can’t even call it intimate)calling it an abomination, a detestable sin. This being said makes homosexuals unrighteous. As stated earlier, they will not inherit the kingdom of God. The actions and desires of same sex partners is declared to be lustful, shameful, indecent, and unnatural. Such condemnation makes it clear that this type of “marrying” is not the will of God and would be sin. Even nature and human nature say it is sin because man and woman were made differently. The sexual union between a man and a woman is what God intended so that man may increase and multiply. There is no such practice or union in same sex relations so reproduction is not possible the way God intended. Old Testament law even said (as in Deut. 22:5) that “a woman should not wear men’s clothing nor a man wear women’s clothing, for the Lord your God detests anyone who does this”.

What did Jesus do when anyone violated any moral laws: He forgave them and He loved them as a basis for establishing a relationship with them.

Men and women do have unique and very different roles in marriage and Paul touches on that in his epistles; “Wives, be submissive to your husband….Husbands, love your wives”. Fathers also have a role in child rearing – “Fathers do not exasperate your children; instead bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord”. Proverbs 1:8 says “Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching”. Proverbs 3:11-12 talks about despising the Lord’s discipline and resenting His rebuke – the Lord disciplines those He loves as a father delights in his son. (Jos.1:8)

Treatment of homosexuality is handled in several ways. The Old Testament has the ten commandments. They are either exiled or put out of the city. Hate the sin but love the sinner! In some cases they are put to death(Sodom and Gomorrah). The NT has the Beattitudes – the behaviors and the attitudes we should have as Christians. Again, hate the sin but love the sinner which is exactly what Jesus did.
